Uragano Sandy e il sistema notizie - Hurricane Sandy and the news system

Buona festa a tutti! Sì, perchè i new-yorkesi sono politically correct in ogni occasione, feste comprese: non sapendo se chi si trovano di fronte sia cattolico o no, si limitano a un gioioso "Good holiday!" apprezzato da chiunque. Quello che mi ha stupito in queste prime settimane di permanenza, sono le notizie.

Happy holiday to everybody! You know, the Newyorkers are politically correct in every occasion, holidays included: since they do not know if the person in front of them is catholic or religious, they just say a joyful "Good holiday!", appreciated from everybody. What surprised me these very first weeks of my staying here, are the news.

I giornalisti non si imitano infatti al classico elenco di disgrazie, ma rilevano quanto di positivo si stia facendo nell'affrontare truffe, emergenze o quant'altro, fornendo piu' volte al giorno indirizzi internet e numeri telefonici per ricevere e dare aiuto in un incontro, tutto particolare, fra "domanda-e-offerta". Pare che si rendano conto che   le situazioni di "emergenza" sono in realtà piuttosto lunghe da passare per chi le sta affrontando. Ed ecco allora i servizi giornalistici su quello che viene nominato "New Yorkese della settimana", in uno stimolo per tutti ad agire. A distanza di oltre un mese, si sente ancora parlare dell'uragano Sandy, di quanto è stato fatto, di quanto si sta facendo e di quanto ci sia ancora da fare. Sotto tutti gli aspetti. Ecco allora che "cittadina della settimana" è una volontaria che ha salvato e sta dando rifugio agli animali domestici degli sfollati, in attesa che questi ritrovino una casa e li possano riprendere come veri e propri membri della famiglia: cani, gatti, ma anche criceti e una coppia di vetuste tartarughe che hanno placidamente affrontato un viaggio di svariate miglia in un secchio d'acqua per ritrovare un po' di tranquillità. Oppure "cittadine della settimana" sono due nonne di un piccolo paesino dello Stato di NY che si sono improvvisate con successo "apprendiste babbo natale" per raccogliere doni per tutti i bambini del paesino, per vederli sorridere ancora. Oppure degli insegnanti che tengono aperte le scuole come spazi di svago pomeridiano per i ragazzi che non hanno piu' un posto dove giocare. E   che dire dell'iniziativa della Time Warner di sguinzagliare per le città i suoi camion di attrezzature per portare la connessione wi-fi gratuita in un momento in cui si erano gravemente danneggiate le apparecchiature di comunicazione, ancora piu' importanti per dare notizie ai propri cari lontani in un momento di precarietà e incertezza? Insomma, eccomi in un nuovo mondo! E allora: Happy holiday to everybody!

The journalists didn't restrict themselves to the classical list of accidents and calamities, but they notice all that is done in order to oppose the frauds or to engage in emergencies or whatever, spreading, more times in a day, internet addresses and phone numbers where one can receive or give help in an, almost particular, meeting between "demand-and-offer". It seems they are aware that actually it takes a lot of time for the "emergency" situations to go by, for the ones who are undergoing with them. Therefore here they are the services on whom is elected "NewYorker of the week", with a stimulation for everybody to act. After more than a month since hurricane Sandy devastated part of New Jersey and New York, one can still hear stories of how much people did, is doing and of how much there is still left to do. From all points of view. So "NewYorker of the week" is a woman who voluntary rescued the animals until their owners could get back on their feet and could take their pets back as a proper family members: dogs, cats, but also hamster and a couple of old turtles that placidly deal with a long trip lying in a water bucket in order to find once again a bit of calmness. Or "Citizens of the week" are two grandmothers who live in a small city in NY State and who play Santa Claus' apprentices to gather gifts for all the children of their town, in order to see them smiling again. Or some teachers who keep open schools' halls for the kids to play into, since they don't have a suitable space to any more. And how about the Time Warner, that equipped its vehicles with mobile charging stations and free Wi-fi so the NewYorkers could access the web and charge their devises in a period of highly uncertainty in which was extremely important to communicate with their beloved far away? Well, here I am, in a new world! Therefore: Happy holiday to everybody!
