Vacanze nel Maine: avvistamento balene - Holidays in Maine: Whale Watching

Come vi dicevo nel post precedente, a fine giugno sono stata a Cape Cod e a visitare le sue isole insieme a una mia cara amica. D'obbligo, andando in queste zone, è l'uscita in nave per l'avvistamento delle balene, il cosiddetto whale watching!

As I told you in the previous post, towards the end of June I went to Cape Cod and its islands with a dear friend of mine. If you are in this area, whale watching is a must!

Abbiamo prenotato i biglietti online e, puntualissime, ci siamo presentate all'imbarco. La giornata era splendida e l'equipaggio era certo che avremmo visto i cetacei. La gita è durata circa quattro ore ed è stata di grande soddisfazione. La guida riusciva a prevedere esattamente quando e dove la balena sarebbe comparsa e ci ha spiegato molto sulle sue abitudini. Nella foto sotto a sinistra potete vedere le sue “impronte”, dei grandi cerchi, che si formano a pelo d'acqua, al suo passaggio. È stata un'enorme emozione vederla così bene e così vicina! Un'altra cosa che mi ha impressionato positivamente, sono state le persone: gente il cui motto era “I don't mind to share”, “Non mi dispiace condividere”. Si correva su e giù per nave per seguire il percorso delle balene, ma ognuno si guardava attorno, badando che pure gli altri avessero la possibilità di godere di quello spettacolo! Insomma: bisogna andare in mezzo all'oceano ad avvistare balene per ritrovare un po' di civiltà...

We booked our tickets online and, precise, we showed up at the boarding area. The weather was marvellous and the crew was sure we would have seen the cetaceans. The tour lasted around four hours and really was of great satisfaction: the guide could exactly forecast when and where the whale would have shown up and she explained many things about its habits. In the photo at the bottom left, you can see the whale's “footprints”, big circles of disturbed water it leaves on the surface of the ocean when it moves. It was a huge emotion to see it so close and clearly! Another thing I was positively impressed by, was people: people whose motto was “I don't mind to share”. We rush around the ship following the whales' path, but everybody looked around, paying attention that all the other had the chance to enjoy the sight! Hence: one has to go in the middle of the ocean, watching whales to find again a bit of civility...
