Buona festa a tutti! Sì, perchè i new-yorkesi sono politically correct in ogni occasione, feste comprese: non sapendo se chi si trovano di fronte sia cattolico o no, si limitano a un gioioso "Good holiday!" apprezzato da chiunque. Quello che mi ha stupito in queste prime settimane di permanenza, sono le notizie.

Happy holiday to everybody! You know, the Newyorkers are politically correct in every occasion, holidays included: since they do not know if the person in front of them is catholic or religious, they just say a joyful "Good holiday!", appreciated from everybody. What surprised me these very first weeks of my staying here, are the news.

Missione compiuta - Mission Accomplished

Et me voilà! O meglio: here I am, installed in New Yoooork! Non è stato facile: due anni di attesa, un paio di mesi di contrattazioni, l'attesa del visto, la preparazione di due traslochi... Sì, due: perché mia madre, una volta andata in pensione si è "polipata" a casa mia. Perciò, non potendo portarmela dietro nella Grande Mela, ho dovuto pensare a una sistemazione piu' consona anche per lei. Suppongo però di non dovermene lamentare (effetti collaterali, quali la Farm, a parte - e se non sapete di cosa io stia parlando, leggete Amici di FB, vicini di Farmville!): una madre in buona salute lava, stira, pulisce la casa, prepara da mangiare... Insomma fa tutto con piu' attenzione di una colf e maggior amore di una cuoca provetta; inoltre, in quanto insignita del titolo di madre, non può essere definita una cenerentola. Anzi, la preoccupazione che tutt'ora mi arrovella riguardo al trasferimento a NY per motivi lavorativi, è quella di dover fare di nuovo tutto io! Ieri, infatti, mi sono nuovamente cimentata nella preparazione della pasta. La mia prima pasta americana... Appunto: ho dimenticato il sale :-/

Et me voilà! Or better: here I am, installed in New Yoooork! It wasn't easy: two years waiting for that, a couple of months for contracting, waiting for the visa, the preparation of two removals... Yes, two: because my mother, once retired, confortably installed herself in my flat. Therefore, not being able to move her in the Big Apple now, I had to think of a suitable accomodation for her, too. Although, I suppose, I cannot complain about her (collateral effects as the Farm, apart - and if you don't know what I am talking about, then read Friends on FB, neighbours on Farmville!): a mother in good-health washes, does the ironing, cleans the house, cooks... In short she does everything with more attention than a colf and more love than an expert chef; moreover, since invested with the title of mother, she authomatically can not be called Cinderella. On the contrary, the concern that still racks my brain, with reguards to the moving to NY for business reasons, is the fact to be forced to do everything, once again, by myself! Yesterday, in fact, I tried to cook some pasta. My first American pasta... Exactly: I forgot the salt :-/

Michela Calabrese & John William Coltrane

Qualche tempo fa, durante una pausa pranzo nel centro di Milano, mi è capitato di essere attratta da una musicista. Per chi mi conosca, la cosa è piuttosto strana: in genere aborro i suonatori ambulanti, di solito ragazzini zingari che non hanno idea di come tenere in mano uno strumento, riuscendo a cavarne unicamente miagoli strazianti; il malcapitato ascoltatore, tappandosi un orecchio con una mano, allunga con l'altra dei soldi pur di farli smettere e allontanare. Naturalmente, appena inizia la bella stagione, ci sono molte manifestazioni organizzate, ad esempio, dal conservatorio, che compensano almeno in parte, tali atrocità. Michela Calabrese è una professionista che ha già inciso dei dischi. Il suo modo di suonare il flauto traverso era (ed è) veramente affascinante, una mescolanza di sentimento e grinta, degli effetti di suono a tratti aspri, ma mai stonati e che donano al flauto la sembianza di altri strumenti, ampliandone la gamma e le possibilità. Non amo molto la musica jazz, ma la sua interpretazione era talmente coinvolgente che, non solo ha catalizzato la mia attenzione per tutta la pausa pranzo, ma mi ha spinto a comperare il suo cd (altra stranezza, considerato quanto sono spilorcia!) A casa, nell'ascoltarlo, ho ritrovato quell'energia e quel coinvolgimento provati dal vivo. Un disco estremamente godibile, Riflessi che vi consiglio. Questa la pagina myspace della musicista.

Some times ago, during a lunch pause in the centre of Milan, it happened to me to be attracted by a musician. For those who know me, this is rather strange: in general I abhor the itinerant player, usually young gypsy guys that have no ideas on how to hold an instrument, being able to obtain just agonizing meows; the unfortunate listener, covering an ear with one hand, passes them a few odd coins with the other hand in the hope they would stop that noise and move away. Naturally, as soon as the good weather comes, there are many organized events, for example, by the conservatory, that compensate, in part at least, such atrocities. Michela Calabrese is a professional who has already recorded some CDs. Her way of playing the transverse flute was (and is) really amazing, a mix of feeling and determination, with sound effects at times harsh, but never wrong that make the flute sounds like other instruments, broadening its gamut and its possibilities. I do not love very much jazz, but her performance was so involving that it, not only captured my attention for my whole lunch pause, but also pushed me to buy her cd (rather weird thing, considering how scrooge I am!) When I listened to it, at home, I found once again the energy and the captivation I experienced in her live show. An extremely enjoyable CD, Riflessi, that I suggest you. This is her myspace page

Salve! Eccomi di nuovo qui, dopo un mese... o meglio: un po' più di un mese. La mia scusa è la mole di lavoro: dall'inizio di agosto infatti sono a NY on business; e voi sapete che c'è sempre un sacco da fare a NY. Come potete vedere dalla foto, inoltre, durante questo periodo così pieno, ho dovuto anche prendere decisioni molto difficili ;-) Vi scriverò presto, giuro. Ciao ciao!

Ecco la notizia su un paio di concorsi per esordienti (a cui parteciperò ^_^).
Il primo è organizzato da Mondadori, in collaborazione con Radio 24 ed è concentrato sui generi del giallo, thriller, noir (qui trovate il link). Un concorso "classico", per racconti brevi (massimo 40.000 battute) e inediti sia su carta che su web. Meno "classico" il fatto che i prescelti, oltre a essere pubblicati, saranno letti su Radio24, raggiungendo così un ancor più vasto pubblico!
Il secondo (qui il link) invece farà la felicità di molti self-publisher. Sempre indetto da una grande casa editrice, LaFeltrinelli, in collaborazione con l'Espresso e la Scuola Holden, si può partecipare con il proprio libro (lunghezza minima 120 000 caratteri), senza limiti di genere, né la costrizione di non averlo già auto-pubblicato. L'unico sostanziale requisito è (ragionevolmente) di non aver ceduto i propri diritti a terzi.
Ora scusate... devo andare a scrivere. La scadenza dei concorsi (31 luglio) si avvicina ;-)

Giorno 21: La tua copertina preferita (Risponderò prima alla domanda inglese, che è più restrittiva di quella italiana e chiede: “l'illustrazione preferita di un libro d'infanzia”) Ho una pessima memoria, come ho già avuto modo di dire. Stranamente tendo a ricordare le storie e non le figure dei libri. L'unica che mi viene in mente è quella di un pinguino; era un pinguino speciale: la sua livrea infatti non era a “smoking”, ma tutta colorata e dipinta a fiori! Il pinguino si chiamava “Hyppie”. A causa di questa stranezza, Hyppie non era accettato dagli altri pinguini, neppure dagli insegnanti che continuavano a insistere che avrebbe dovuto fare qualcosa per liberarsi di tutti quei colori! Day 21: Favorite picture book from childhood I have a bad memory, as already said! Strangely I remember the stories, not the pictures of the books. The only one that springs to mind is about a penguin; it was a special penguin though: its “plumage” didn't look as a smoking, but it was full of colours and painted flowers! The penguin was called – of course! – “Hyppie!. Because of this strangeness Hyppie was not accepted by the others penguins neither by its teacher that insisted it should have made something against all those colours! I do not remember what happened to Hyppie – I supposed at the end it made something exceptional tending to the heroic therefore it was accepted as it was – anyway this colourful penguin

L'ESPERIMENTO DELLO GNOMO - THE GNOME EXPERIMENT

Qualsiasi cosa (o quasi) che sia notevolmente diffusa, o meglio: che sia "di moda", mi suscita una certa avversione. Ad esempio: i nani da giardino, oggettistica inutile di cui non ho mai colto il fascino (e con questo mi sarò probabilmente attirata le antipatie di molte/i...) Quello di cui voglio parlarvi è però uno gnomo particolare, che fa parte di un interessante esperimento.

Giorno 20: Un libro che non ti stancherai mai di rileggere. Dei ricercatori (... pare che per qualsiasi argomento si trovi qualcuno preso dallo sghiribizzo di “ricercare”!) dicevo: dei ricercatori hanno fatto il conto che per leggere quanto è stato stampato nei secoli non bastano le ore di una vita (comprese quelle che “sperperiamo” dormendo), perciò, pensare di rileggerne qualcuno, mi sembra tempo sottratto ad altri bei libri. Ovviamente però, mi capita di aver voglia di rileggerne qualcuno; qualcuno di cui a volte non ci si riesce a ricordare bene la trama, ma che ha lasciato una piacevole sensazione. In genere comunque non supero le due letture. Eccetto che per lui:

Day 20: Book you’ve read the most number of times Some researchers (... it seems that for every kind of subject, making a research springs from the mind of someone!) I was saying: some researchers counted that, in order to read what was publishing in ages, the hours of the entire life (included those “wasted” sleeping) are not sufficient. Therefore, thinking of reading once again a book, it seems to me time subtracted to other beautiful novels. Of course, it happens I 'd like to re-read some; especially some which I can't well remember, but that left me with an enjoyable sensation. However I don't usually read over twice. As an exception there is it:

Giorno 18: Un libro il cui film ti ha deluso Anche oggi due domande diverse. Quella italiana è piuttosto semplice: sono sempre delusa dai film tratti da un libro, SE ho già letto il libro. Il motivo è semplice: mi sono già immaginata i protagonisti e il loro ambiente e - com'è prevedibile - questi generalmente non coincidono con quanto immaginato dal regista. Diverso è il caso in cui non abbia ancora letto il libro e mi capiti più tardi fra le mani, come per:

Giorno 11: Un libro del tuo autore preferito Ho molti autori preferiti a seconda del momento e dell'umore. Comunque - a parte Isabel Allende che mi ha aperto "nuovi" mondi - amo molto lo stile di Banana Yoshimoto, le sue storie e il suo peculiare modo di scrivere, che definirei "leggero" e raffinato. Mi è rimasto particolarmente impresso il primo libro che ho letto scritto da lei:

Intervista a Radio24 - Voi siete qui

"Amici di facebook, vicini di farmville" con la sua "folle" ed esilarante storia finisce in radio!

Oggi sono stata intervistata da Matteo Caccia su radio 24 alla trasmissione "Voi siete qui" e ho avuto la possibilità di raccontare uno stralcio della mia storia. Una storia buffa se la si sa guardare dal giusto lato. Un racconto che accomuna molti, appassionati e non di facebook e i suoi social game. Una trasmissione su "innocue" dipendenze, sfogo contro una quotidianità a volte fastidiosa e irritante.
Una piccola cosa certo, ma pur sempre una (piccola) soddisfazione :-)
