L'ESPERIMENTO DELLO GNOMO - THE GNOME EXPERIMENT

Qualsiasi cosa (o quasi) che sia notevolmente diffusa, o meglio: che sia "di moda", mi suscita una certa avversione. Ad esempio: i nani da giardino, oggettistica inutile di cui non ho mai colto il fascino (e con questo mi sarò probabilmente attirata le antipatie di molte/i...) Quello di cui voglio parlarvi è però uno gnomo particolare, che fa parte di un interessante esperimento.

(Almost) everything that is considerably popular, or better: that is "trendy", generates in me a certain disinclination. For example: "The garden gnomes", useless objects which I always loss the glamour of (and with that I had probably attracted many dislikes towards me...)What I would like to talk about is, on the contrary, a particular gnome, that is part of an interesting experiment.

Non essendo la Terra una sfera di densità uniforme, la forza di gravità varia a seconda di dove si va. Si è pertanto pensato di farne una "mappatura" grazie a un semplice kit. Leggo nel sito che le ragioni per cui è stata scelta questa bizzarra forma da dare allo strumento di misurazione sono essenzialmente due: 1) gli gnomi sono abituati a viaggiare (se lo dicono loro, io non lo metto in dubbio; non me ne intendo affatto di gnomi e, come ho detto, li ho sempre evitati!) 2) (Cosa che mi sembra un po' più ragionevole) sono originari della Germania, luogo da cui è partito il progetto. Nel sito potrete vedere la mappa dei luoghi in cui lo gnomo è già passato. Ah! Potete anche prendere parte all'esperimento e ricevere il vostro "Gnomo-Kit" se volete ;-)

Since the Earth is not a perfect sphere of uniform density, then gravity varies wherever you go. Therefore they thought to "chart" those discrepancies, thanks to a simple kit. I read in the web-site that the reasons for which they choose this strange form for the measurement kit, are essentialy two: 1) Gnomes are already accustomed to travelling the world (if they say so, I have no objections; I am not familiar with gnomes and, as said, I always avoid them!) 2) (Things that appears to me more reasonable) they also originate from Germany, land which the project has started from. In the website you would be able to see the map of the place already visited by the gnome. Ha! You can also join the experiment and receive the "Gnome kit" if you want ;-)
